PORT TOWNSEND — Rainshadow Concerts will present Dana Cooper, singer-songwriter and storyteller, at the Palindrome at Eaglemount Cidery on Thursday.

The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. at the cidery, 1893 S. Jacob Miller Road in Port Townsend.

Tickets are $20 and are available at https://danacooper.brownpapertickets.com or at the door. Proof of vaccination is required for entry.

Cooper has said one of his earliest memories is of his father taking him to the Calico Cat in Kansas City, popping a coin in the jukebox and listening to his 2-year-old son sing along with Hank Williams & Ernest Tubb.

Eighteen years later, he moved to Los Angeles and recorded his first album with Elektra Records with members of “The Section,” Russ Kunkel and Leland Sklar, as well as other well-known players Jim Horn, Al Perkins, Jim Gordon, Joe Osborne and Lee Holdridge.

The album, which still wins accolades today, was recently reissued on the Warner/Japan label.

After years in California, Texas and Seattle, Cooper moved to Nashville to pursue his songwriting career, collaborating with such songwriters as Tom Kimmel, Don Henry, Kim Carnes and Kim Richey.

His years as a troubadour is measured by 28 albums and collection of accolades.

He earned the In the Spirit of Folk Award from Folk Alliance International (2015); Heritage Musician Award from The Pilgrim Center for the Arts in Kansas City, Mo. (2014); Veteran Recurring Performer at Kerrville Folk Festival; Best Male Songwriter Award Indie Acoustic Project, for Made of Mud (2005); Best Record Award The Tennesseean, for Harry Truman Built a Road (2002); and Nashville Music Award Nomination Best Pop Album for Miracle Mile (1997).

Cooper’s songs have been recorded by bluegrass singer Claire Lynch, Irish vocalist Maura O’Connell, Nashville songbird Jonell Mosser, as well as songwriters Pierce Pettis and Susan Werner.

This concert series is produced by Rainshadow Recording as part of a new collaboration with Matt Miner, former producer of the Northwind Songs concert series held at Northwind Arts Center before the pandemic.

This event is sponsored by Strait Floors. Media sponsor is KPTZ Radio.
