Cultural traditions explored at free public meeting in Port Angeles this Monday

PORT ANGELES — Area residents are invited to learn about and discuss cultural traditions in the city and statewide at a community meeting at the Port Angeles Library at 10 a.m. Monday.

No registration is required to attend the session at the library at 2210 S. Peabody St.

The feedback will inform a new Center for Washington Cultural Traditions, a statewide program being built as a partnership between nonprofits Humanities Washington and the Washington State Arts Commission (ArtsWA).

Folk life and traditional arts will be explored.

The center will support tradition bearers throughout the state, interpret the state’s rich cultural heritage, conduct research and create a range of media and programming.

Port Angeles residents are encouraged to join Humanities Washington and ArtsWA at this free community meeting to:

• Discuss some of Port Angeles’ and Washington state’s many cultural traditions with community leaders, tradition bearers and the center’s director.

• Learn about the development of the center and plans for its future.

• Learn about networks supporting Washington communities’ heritage.

• Share ideas and questions.

• Help the center create strong partnerships and effective programming.

For more information, contact Kristin Sullivan, director of the Center for Washington Cultural Traditions, at kristin@humanities.org or 206-682-1770, ext. 107, or visit www.humanities.org/center-washington-cultural-traditions.
