Coyle concert spotlights Celtic folk band

COYLE — SeaStar, a Celtic folk music band based in Seattle, will perform at Saturday’s Concert in the Woods.

The all-ages concert, by donation, begins at 7:30 p.m. at Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road. Complimentary cookies and coffee will be served at intermission.

SeaStar formed in 2007, when songwriter Fae Wiedenhoeft began performing original, Celtic-influenced material with fellow guitarist Doug Hayman. The group’s debut album, “SeaStar Blue,” was recorded in 2008. In 2009, the duo released “SeaStar Black” with a mix of experimental material.

New album completed in June

By late June, SeaStar completed recording their new album, “Never Go Back,” which features “The Little Western” as well as many new songs with an Americana and roots edge.

Wiedenhoeft has won the Robert Kotta Songwriting Contest for “The Little Western” and an honorable mention by the Woody Guthrie Festival for “Bittersweet Rubbish.”

Band lineup

On Saturday, Wiedenhoeft will sing and play guitar, mandolin, banjo, pennywhistles and bodhran; Michael Falcone will sing and play percussion and keys; Captain Chambers will play the bass guitar; and Ron Allen will play electric, slide and acoustic guitar.
