COVID-19 prompts cancellation of some Jazz in the Olympics shows

Saturday show still on

PORT ANGELES — The Friday night shows planned for the Jazz in the Olympics festival have been canceled, but the Saturday show will go on, according to Leslie Robertson, events manager for the Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce.

Some key production personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 and will not be available to support the two shows that were scheduled for Friday night at the Naval Elks Lodge in Port Angeles and 7 Cedars Resort in Blyn, Robertson said Tuesday in a press release.

However, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and the Navy Northwest jazz ensemble will perform at 7 Cedars Casino’s Club Seven at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night along with the Navy Band Northwest jazz ensemble. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m.

The chamber is moving all Friday night reservations to Saturday night, and will honor all Friday night tickets on Saturday night, Robertson said in a press release.

All Friday night tickets purchased also are eligible for full refund if ticket holders prefer a refund rather than to attend the Saturday night shows. Contact events@portangeles.org or 360-797-9345 to request a refund.

Tickets to the Saturday show — where Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, a swing band that has played the Hollywood Bowl and the Super Bowl halftime show, is the headliner — are $75 for general admission and $100 for VIP.

Although Friday tickets were a little less, they still will be honored on Saturday.

A limited number of tickets for Saturday night remained available on Tuesday from the festival website at www.OlympicJazz.com.

The Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce has confirmed that no chamber personnel have tested positive for COVID-19, Robertson said.

Unlike the previous version of Jazz in the Olympics, which focused on the Dixieland style, the festival has been upgraded to encompass many jazz forms and target enthusiasts in the Seattle-Victoria-Portland, Ore., area, according to the chamber.
