PORT ANGELES — The winter quarter Jazz Ensemble concert in Peninsula College’s Maier Hall will feature music played and sung by 18 North Olympic Peninsula jazz musicians at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Admission will be free at Maier Hall on the Peninsula College campus, 1502 Lauridsen Blvd.
The ensemble will perform Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Bill Holman, Jule Styne and Richie Beirach, with arrangements by David P. Jones, all in the same evening.
Robbin Eaves of Joyce will be on vocals with a 17-player band.
From Port Angeles, the ensemble features Bob Bailey (alto sax), Andy Geiger (tenor sax), Richard “Doc” Thorson (tenor sax), Kelsey Cammack (tenor sax), Kris Grier (trumpet), Joel Ricci (trumpet), Tyler Hansen (trumpet), Ron Daylo (trombone), Tyler Benedict (bass trombone), Jones (keyboards/director) and Nicia Pfeffer (drums).
From Sequim is Kate Powers (electric violin).
From Port Townsend, the ensemble draws John Adams (alto/soprano saxes) and Lorenzo Jones (baritone sax).
The bassist, John Sanders, lives in Quilcene, and one of the drummers, Tor Brandes, makes the trek all the way from Neah Bay.
The Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble is dedicating the winter quarter concerts to the memory of George Snyder, who passed away recently.
Snyder was a faithful member of the PC Jazz Ensemble for a few years and, through his activities as a trumpeter, arranger and bandleader, was a significant force in the North Olympic jazz community for many years.
