Contra dance planned at Black Diamond Community Hall

PORT ANGELES — Everybody, regardless of previous experience, is invited to the contra dance at the Black Diamond Community Hall, 1942 Black Diamond Road, this Saturday night.

The band Waxwings will provide the music at this monthly dance while Emma Anderson, a caller known around the Northwest, will do the coaching and cuing.

As always, a beginners workshop and refresher starts the evening at 7:30, then the contra dancing goes from 8 p.m. until 11 p.m.

Contra dance is a lot like square dancing, only it’s done in two long lines with everyone trading partners and sailing through simple steps such as the ladies’ chain and balance-and-swing.

Admission for the whole night is $8 for adults and $4 for youths 17 and younger.

For more about this community dance, see www.BlackDiamondDance.org or phone 360-457-5667.
