Concerts in the Woods presents performance tonight

COYLE — The Concerts in the Woods series will present the music of Anna Coogan at 7:30 tonight.

Coogan will be play this show with a guest performer, pedal steel player Jay Kardong, at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center at 923 Hazel Point Road.

Admission will be by donation. Complimentary cookies and coffee will be served at intermission. The center has seating for about 65 people.

The show is a break in the tradition of Concerts in the Woods, the concert having been moved from Saturday night to tonight.

“I first met Anna Coogan as a folk singer in a coffeehouse in Seattle,” said Norm Johnson, series organizer.

“Since then she has returned to the East Coast and found success with her own style of blending her opera training with her roots in Americana. I’m excited to bring this cutting edge music to our Coyle venue.

“Fasten your seat belts; you are in for ride.”

Boston born and classically trained in Austria, Coogan spent her 20s in Seattle, busking among fishmongers in Pike Place Market before filling larger venues in the region.

Her music has been featured on ABC TV, KEXP, the BBC, RTE 1 (Irish National Radio), and WDR 4 (Cologne, Germany), according to her website at www.annacoogan.com.

After her move to New York state in 2011, she co-wrote and toured a record with JD Foster (Calexico, Patty Griffin), and joined Americana-punk veteran Johnny Dowd on recent albums in addition to live performances at Lincoln Center and throughout Europe, her website says.
