Concert slated to benefit Jumping Mouse Center in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend jazz singer Carla Main, along with a band of four musicians, will present a concert to benefit Jumping Mouse Children’s Center at 7 p.m. Sunday.

This group will take the audience on a musical tour ranging from blues to jazz standards to 60s soul at the Port Townsend Friends Meeting, 1841 Sheridan St.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The requested donation for this fundraising concert is $20 per person.

The band features Main on vocals, Dirk Anderson on bass, Ted Brancato on keyboards, Kurt Festinger on sax and clarinet and Robert Rushing on drums. All of the musicians are donating their time and talent for this event.

When asked why she wanted to do this concert, Main said, “I jumped at the chance to work with these generous and talented musicians to support Jumping Mouse.

“This organization changes the lives of kids who are coping with stress or trauma. In helping them find their way to healing, lives are touched throughout the community. Kids, families, schools and the whole community are stronger and more resilient. We are so lucky to have this unique service in our community.”

All proceeds from the concert will go toward providing therapy to children from low-income families in Jefferson County, according to a news release.

Jumping Mouse Children’s Center uses therapy to help children who have experienced emotional stress or trauma that has deeply affected them and their families.

Specially trained therapists work with children aged 2 to 12 for as long as necessary and families are served regardless of ability to pay, said the news release.

“We are so thrilled to have these generous musicians offer their talent on behalf of Jumping Mouse kids,” said Jumping Mouse interim Executive Director Jenny Manza. “Because of support from our community, we ensure that there are no financial barriers to therapy.”
