Community theaters to host joint auditions for Christmas shows

Olympic Theatre Arts and the Port Angeles Community Players will conduct joint auditions for their Christmas shows.

Auditions will be conducted from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Port Angeles Community Playhouse, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles, and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 30 at Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim.

Christy Holy will direct OTA’s production of “The Rented Christmas” and Marissa Meek will direct the PACP production of “Christmas Dreams.”

Both shows will run from Dec. 6-22.

“The Rented Christmas,” written by Norman and Yvonne Ahearn, tells the story of John Dale, a man who has not had a good Christmas since his parents died years before.

When Dale rents a Christmas from Anne Weston’s rental shop, his housekeeper and cook help Weston to gather local orphans and create a nostalgic Christmas, bringing joy that money cannot buy.

For more information, visit www.olympic theatrearts.org/auditions.

“Christmas Dreams,” written by John Robertson, is set in Depression-era Chicago.

Jackie McArthur is struggling to support his grandmother while dealing with anger over his abandonment by an alcoholic father.

On Christmas Eve, when he learns his father is returning and he makes plans to run away, he is visited by a spirit in the form of a rail-riding tramp and must choose between love and hate.

This family story told with realism, humor and love will light every heart that knows betrayal and the healing of forgiveness.

Meeks is looking to cast five males, including one in his teens or 20s, and three females, also including one in her teens or 20s.

The director also is looking for small community choral groups interested in guest appearances singing Christmas carols at one or several of the performances.

For more information, email Ken Winters at kenpacp@gmail.com.

Perusal copies of both scripts are available at the temporary location of the Sequim Branch Library, 609 W. Washington St., Sequim, and at the Port Angeles Main Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles.
