Community sing-along ‘Messiah’ set for today

SEQUIM — Time for the community to raise its collective voice.

“Messiah,” the 18th annual community singalong, is set for 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.

Community members are invited to sing or listen to selections from Handel’s oratorio “Messiah,” as well as make donations for food banks and St. Vincent de Paul to help Sequim and Port Angeles communities.

Each dollar donated will be matched by an anonymous couple who hope to see this event continue as both a community event as well as a way to raise funds for Clallam County residents.

“Messiah” was first performed to raise funds for an orphanage in 1742 in Dublin, Ireland, and has a long history of being involved with raising funds for community support.

Musical directors for the event are Jerry Wright and Joel Yelland, accompanied by local instrumentalists and soloists.

The show features an intermission with punch and cookies provided.

Scores for the chorus are borrowed from several sources — including First Presbyterian Church in Seattle, Port Angeles Symphony, First Presbyterian Church in Port Angeles — or people may bring their own.
