Community Players to conduct auditions for play about domestic violence

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Community Players plan auctions today and Saturday for the group’s 2023-24 season opener “To The Moon.”

The auditions will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Playhouse at 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd. in Port Angeles.

The cast will consist of seven females and one LGBTQIA+. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the scripts (available to peruse at the Port Angeles and Sequim libraries or can be requested in digital form). All ethnicities, races and ages from 18 and older are encouraged to try out.

The show will run from Oct. 6 through Oct. 15, with 7:30 p.m. performances on Tuesday, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. matinees on Sundays.

After the success of last year’s “Every Brilliant Thing,” which dealt with the sensitive subject of suicide, PACP has decided to shine some light on another pressing social issue, the group said in a press release.

“To The Moon” is a docudrama based on real-life stories of domestic violence survivors,” the Players said.

“It’s not about ‘an issue’ flat and removed from actual experiences. It’s about people: the characters you’ll meet in this play, whom you will find heartbreakingly human, and the dozens of real survivors who inspired their creation.

“The survivors who shared their stories for this piece are brave and quiet and fierce and mild and funny and as varied a community as you can imagine,” the Players said.

Co-directors Mindy Gelder and Ken Winters have invited Healthy Families of Clallam County to collaborate in raising awareness of domestic violence and to help raise funds to further its work in supporting domestic violence survivors.

If interested, but unable to make the auditions, contact Barb Frederick, PACP Board President, at 360-452-6651 or Pacommunityplayers@hotmail.com.
