Community Players open ‘The Dresser’

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Community Players will open its production of “The Dresser” by Ronald Harwood on Friday.

The play will run Friday, Saturday, Tuesday and March 3, 4, 7, 10 and 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 5 and March 12 at 2 p.m. at the Port Angeles Community Playhouse at 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for students. Tuesday performances are $9 at the door and can be purchased at pacommunityplayers.org. Masks are recommended at all performances but will be required at the March 5 performance.

The play is a about devotion — to friendship, to the theater, to being loyal and to country.

“This play is a story written over 40 years ago about the experiences of a devoted dresser to an actor (based on actual events) that took place 80 years ago in an art form thousands of years old,” said Director Tim Thorn.

“It offers a glimpse behind the curtain for one small theatre company in England during World War II.

“Air raids and bombs were a daily occurrence and yet these entertainers, whether devoted to theatre or to the company’s director and leading man, literally risked their lives to bring relief, or at least a temporary distraction, to the local communities.”

The cast includes Zachary Weidenhoeft, Rebecca Gilbert, Sarah Tucker, Peter Stone, Emma Siler, Kevin Breckenridge, Matt Gieseke, Rich Hendricksen, Rich Mischke and Rebecca Hall.

“Entertainment usually flourishes during difficult times,” Thorn said. “We need the escape, the temporary respite from reality. A sense of normalcy.”
