Community chorus to host Mardi Gras concert

PORT TOWNSEND — The Community Chorus of Port Townsend and East Jefferson County will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a “Fabulous Fat Tuesday Party” at 6:30 p.m. March 4.

The fundraising celebration will be at the American Legion’s Marvin G. Shields Memorial Post 26, 209 Monroe St., Port Townsend.

Tickets are $50 per person at www.brownpapertickets.com or by calling 360-643-3345 or 360-385-1912.

Proceeds from the Mardi Gras-themed party will support the Community Chorus and its spring concerts.

The party will feature hors d’oeuvres, a no-host bar with New Orleans-style drinks and a lineup of local entertainment.

“We love to celebrate with music, and the evening will be full of color, good food and great music,” said Linda Atkins, the chorus president. “We feel very fortunate that so much talent from our own community has agreed to perform on our behalf. The generosity of the performers is incredible, and it’s so nice to have such a wide variety of vocal and instrumental groups.”

Performers will include Joel Stoner and the J Jazz Groove, Joe Euro, the Wild Rose Chorale, Sarah Moran, Leslie and Blaine Lewis, Al Thompson and his saxophone and pianist Helen Lauritzen.

The chorus has a concert scheduled in April featuring Shawn Kirchner, a nationally recognized choral composer, arranger and pianist, and a karaoke party in May.

They also will collaborate with the RainShadow Chorale and an orchestra to present “Messiah” by George Frideric Handel at its season finale in November.
