PORT ANGELES — Classical pianist Anson K. Sin will perform a solo recital in Peninsula College’s Maier Performance Hall at 7 p.m. Monday.
The alumnus of Peninsula College is considered one of the rising young stars of the classical piano world.
“Possessing a rare combination of musical instinct, unique performance style, and technique, Sin has found success in performances and competitions worldwide,” said David P. Jones, conductor, composer and professor, in a press release.
“He was first recognized for his debut performance with the Port Townsend Symphony Orchestra, at the age of 18. He has performed as a concert pianist internationally, including at New York’s Carnegie Hall and at the Hong Kong Cultural Center.”
General admission to the concert in Maier Hall on the Port Angeles campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., is $15. Student admission is $5.

Sin, a native of Hong Kong, has received a bachelor’s from Hong Kong Baptist University, a master’s in Piano Performance from Southern Oregon University and a master’s in Piano Pedagogy from University of Oregon, as well as a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Oregon.
His teachers include Peninsula College’s Kirstin Quigley Brye and, at SOU, Alexander Tutunov.
When the eighth season of the Maier Hall Concert Series was curtailed in March 2020 by the COVID-19 pandemic health restrictions, Sin’s performance had to be postponed.
“The college is thrilled to be able to, at long last, bring his artistry home to Port Angeles,” Jones said in the press release.
He will perform two major cornerstones of the solo piano sonata repertoire: Frédéric Chopin’s passionate Sonata No. 2 in B minor and Samuel Barber’s Sonata in Eb minor.
Two concertos will be performed with Nathalie Fortin taking on the orchestra role on a second piano: Prokofiev’s Concerto No. 3 in C major and the Piano Concerto Chu — Han Scenes, ICO.136 (U.S. premiere) by the contemporary Hong Kong native, Shi-Guang Cui.
Other solo piano works by Mozart, Schumann and Liszt also will be featured.
Sin earned the silver award at the Manhattan International Young Artists Music Festival Competition leading to his performance at New York Carnegie Hall in July 2017.
Recently, he was the winner of the Grande Ronde Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2019 and 2022.
He serves as a music resident artist at a music school for young students in Lane County. In 2022, Sin will be the guest artist at Western Washington University, Peninsula College, Southern Oregon University, Grande Ronde Symphony Orchestra, and Juneau Arts and Culture Center.
