Clallam County Fair royalty candidates selected

Four to compete for titles

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Fair Royalty has introduced its 2024 candidates.

Kaylyn Baerg, Brooklyn McKnight, Aliya Gillett and Olivia Ostlund will compete for titles and the new court will be crowned at 1 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Exposition Building at the fairgrounds at 1608 W. 16th St., Port Angeles. The coronation will be free and open to the public.

Candidates will be in community seeking donations for the 2024 year.

The new court will represent the county fair at parades and local events along with the court at all four days of the county fair, which is set for Aug. 15-18. The fair theme for 2024 is Celebrate The Bounty Of Our County.

Here is a little about each of the candidates:

• Kaylyn Baerg, 14, is a freshman at Sequim High School. Her parents are Jason and Kindle Baerg and her sponsor is Julie Knowles.

She is a member of FFA at Sequim High School with livestock judging. She plays volleyball and basketball and enjoys snowboarding.

She wants to attend the University of Hawaii and study livestock veterinary work.

Her platform is Cancer Awareness, and her hope is to bring awareness to help prevent and treat cancer.

• Brooklyn McKnight, 14, is a freshman at Port Angeles High School. Her parents are Ken and Stacy McKnight. Her sponsor is Caliber Home Loans (Melanie Pilgrim and Vonnie McKnight).

McKnight is vice president of her class. Her school activities are bowling and track and field. She also participates in symphonic choir classes. Her hobbies are writing, drawing and singing.

She would like to attend Stanford University.

Her platform is Olympic Peninsula Humane Society, and her hope is to bring awareness for the compassion of animals and education for the benefit of the animals.

• Aliya Gillett, 16, is a junior at Forks High School and a Running Start student at Peninsula College. Her parents are Craig and Tracy Gillett. Her sponsors are Chinook Pharmacy and Evergreen 76/Subway.

She is active in her high school soccer, drama club, band and track.

She plans to attend Washington State University and hopes to find cures for illnesses such as cancer.

Her platform is her local food bank.

• Olivia Ostlund, 18, is a senior at Sequim High School. Her parents are Bob Ostlund and Jeromy and April Wright. Her sponsor is Caregivers Home Health Inc.

Ostlund was a Clallam County Fair princess in 2022-2023. She is a member of FFA at Sequim High School and is planning to show rabbits or goats. She is an ambassador in Girl Scouts. She is in the Port Angeles Youth League and has bowled since she was 3.

Her plans are to attend an auto mechanics program.

Her platform is The Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
