‘A Christmas tradition’

The Choral Belles, directed by Mary Lou Montgomery, “have become a Christmas tradition at Trinity and will provide a beautiful evening of sacred and secular Christmas music,” said Richard Purnell, an event organizer.

“The traditional favorite carols of this joyous season will make you want to sing along with the Chorale – and they just might invite you to do so.”

Tradition, secular mix

The program will have a mix of traditional Christmas carols and some favorite secular songs such as “I’ve got my Love to keep me warm,” “A Gospel Christmas,” “Cool Yule,” “Canon” and “Christmas Lullaby.”

This year, a distinctive piano performance by Jolene Visser and Patricia Hauschildt will include “Ukrainian Bell Carol” by Heyde & Tedesco and “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson.

Both of these renditions are in the “piano four hands” style — a type of piano duet in which two players play on a single piano, according to Purnell.

The Choral Belles are celebrating their 21st year of providing musical joy to Port Townsend and surrounding areas during the Christmas Season, according to Purnell.

Since their first Christmas Concert in 1996, 63 different Choral Belles have performed in the concerts throughout the past 20 years, he said.

There are still two of the original Belles performing at this year’s performance, Purnell said.
