A special dedication ceremony, a Toastmasters meeting and a Green Thumb lecture on starting seeds are among Thursday’s activities on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Pavilion dedication

CHIMACUM — The Rotary Club of East Jefferson County will dedicate the recently completed Rotary Pavilion at noon, Thursday.

Attendees can meet in the main entrance to Chimacum High School, 91 West Valley Road, between 11:30 a.m. and noon.

The pavilion in the school’s garden was built to support the high school horticultural program.

Participants will also get a tour of recent improvements at the school and eat lunch in the cafeteria.

Chimacum — Port Townsend Tri-Area for Elizabeth Warren will host Pints and Policy from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.

PORT TOWNSEND — Arlene Alen will present “10 Questions to Ask Before Saying Yes to Joining a Board” from noon to 1:15 p.m. Thursday.

The seminar will be in the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce offices at the Business Resource Center, 2409 Jefferson St.

Alen, the chamber’s executive director, will discuss how prospective board members can decide if particular boards are good fits for them.

Arts meeting

SEQUIM — Ross Brown will be the presenter at the Olympic Peninsula Art Association’s meeting from 9:30 a.m. to noon Thursday.

The association meets at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth St.

Brown, a sculptor and art teacher at Bellevue College, will discuss the use of light as a primary 3-D design element.

Elks bingo

SEQUIM — Sequim Elks will host bingo games from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday.

Games will be at the Sequim Elks lodge, 143 Port Williams Road.

Admission is free with a minimum buy-in of $10. Proceeds will go to Elks scholarship programs, charities and lodge operating expenses.

Green Thumb lecture

PORT ANGELES — Cindy Ericksen will present “Seed Starting” at noon Thursday.

The lecture kicks off the 2020 Green Thumb Garden Tips series held in the county commissioners meeting room in the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.

Ericksen will discuss selecting seeds to fit a gardener’s taste preferences, microclimate and growing conditions; she will also explain timing, watering, temperature and more.

Studium Generale

PORT ANGELES — Deborah Espinosa will present “Debtor’s Prison in Washington State: Advocacy through Visual Storytelling” at 12:35 p.m. Thursday.

The free lecture is part of the Studium Generale series presented in the Little Theater at Peninsula College Forks, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Espinosa will use multimedia storytelling by formerly incarcerated individuals sharing what it’s like for them and their families to try to survive under court-imposed legal debt.

Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations for the Port Angeles Food Bank in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Operation Breadbasket.
