PORT HADLOCK — Poets Richard Kenney and Carol Light, who recently returned from teaching poetry in Rome for the University of Washington, will present their work at the Jefferson County Library at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The evening of chiaroscuro poetry will be at the library at 620 Cedar Ave.
Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines “chiaroscuro” as a “pictorial representation in terms of light and shade without regard to color.”
Kenney has written four books of poetry: “The Evolution of the Flightless Bird,” “Orrery,” “The Invention of the Zero” and “The One Strand River.”
Kenney teaches poetry and verse writing in the undergraduate and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) programs at the University of Washington and has directed English department programs in Rome.
Light’s poems have appeared in Poetry Northwest, Narrative magazine, American Life in Poetry and 32 Poems magazine, and her book “Heaven from Steam” was published in 2014.
In 2013, she received the Robert H. Winner award from the Poetry Society of America.
Both Kenney and Light live in Port Townsend with their families.
Library staff recommends arriving early to save a seat. The next poetry night will be Wednesday, Sept. 27, featuring Washington State Poet Laureate (2016-18) Tod Marshall.
