Chamber music workshop to include performances this weekend

PORT TOWNSEND — Centrum’s Chamber Music Intensive Workshop will open two student performances and a concert by its resident quartet to the public on Fort Worden this weekend.

The student performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; the programs will be announced from the stage.

Tickets for the student performances are $10 per person. Youths 18 and younger will be admitted for free.

The American String Quartet, Centrum’s resident quartet, will take the stage at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Sunday’s performance is $45 per person with youths 18 and younger admitted free.

All three performances will be at the Joseph Wheeler Theater, 200 Battery Way on Fort Worden.

The annual chamber music workshop has provided training and coaching for preprofessional chamber musicians since its inception in 2015.

This year’s students are the Expat Quartet and the Dolphins Quartet.

The Expat Quartet, which met while studying at the Manhattan School of Music, is composed of Gayeon Lee, violin; Nini Giorgadze violin; Jack Rittendale, viola; and Tom Readett, cello.

The Dolphins Quartet is composed of Luke Henderson, violin; Isaac Park, violin; James Preucil, viola; and Ian Maloney, cello.

The American Quartet consists of Peter Winograd, violin; Laurie Carney, violin; Daniel Avshalomov, viola; and Wolfram Koessel, cello.

They will perform Beethoven’s String Quartet Opus 18, No. 2; Ravel’s String Quartet in F major; and, with pianist Lucinda Carver, Robert Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 44.
