Celebrations, films offered this weekend

Celebrations and films are among the activities presented on the North Olympic Peninsula this weekend.

• Celebration of Shadows Fall Festival — The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center will host the Celebration of Shadows Fall Festival on Saturday.

This second annual event marks the return of pumpkin carving workshops, followed by free evening festivities that include a pumpkin walk and contest through Webster’s Woods, a spooky reading in the courtyard, the opportunity for an evening visit to the gallery for the latest exhibition Turning Point, and an outdoor screening of the movie “Coco” in the meadow.

Night of the Living Dead — Adapted by Brian Newell from George Romero’s film, OTA’s “Night of the Living Dead” has taken the stage at the theater at 414 N. Sequim Ave.

Evening show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday this week; 7 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, Oct. 26-29, and 7 p.m. on Halloween (Monday, Oct. 31). Matinees are 2 p.m. this coming Sunday as well as Oct. 30.

Tickets are $20 general and $15 for students, with Thursday’s opening show, a pay-what-you-will event. Tickets are available online at olympictheatrearts.org or by calling the box office at 360-683-7326 between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday or at the door.

• All IN Film Festival — The second All IN Film Fest is returning with a selection of short films created by, starring and about individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

This inclusive film event is free and will be held virtually on Friday and in person on Saturday.

The in-person session will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Little Theater on the Peninsula College Port Angeles campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Additionally, on Saturday, Olympic Peninsula Extended Needs (OPEN) Housing will be hosting a book signing with Christine Motokane, an autistic self-advocate, and graduate with honors from Loyola Marymount University with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. Motokane works as a special education paraeducator.

The film fest is a collaborative project between Clallam Mosaic and Peninsula College’s Magic of Cinema, ʔaʔk̓ʷustəƞáwt̓xʷ House of Learning, Peninsula College Longhouse. The films will showcase the creative contributions, and developing relationships of neuro-diverse individuals.

• Bewitching Tea — The Soroptimist International Port Angeles — Jet Set will hold its annual Bewitching Tea on Saturday in honor of past member the late Edie Beck.

The witches will gather at the Elks Ballroom from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for a cup of tea and plenty of goodies. Halloween attire is urged. A silent auction will top off the day.

Tickets will be $40 at the door or attendees can call 360-460-1722 to reserve and pick up at will call.

• Sweater Weather Stringband — The band will perform at the New Moon Craft Tavern, 130 S. Lincoln St., Port Angeles, from 8:30 p.m. to midnight today.

The 21-and-older show is free to the public.

They will conduct a sweater drive during the show. Attendees are asked to donate gently used sweaters.

• Heavenly Disheveled — The band will perform at the Port Angeles Eagles, 2843 E. Myrtle St., from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday.

The cover charge will be $10 per person, $8 for members.

Light station meeting — The New Dungeness Light Station Association will conduct its annual members meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The hybrid meeting, the association’s first in-person meeting since 2019, will be in Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., Sequim.
