Celebrate science, technology at GeekOut! event Saturday in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — The Celebration of Science & Technology, also known as GeekOut!, is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Port Angeles City Pier.

Community members of all ages are invited to engage with scientists and booths and presentation, and get more information about how science works locally.

Nick Bond will start the event at 10 a.m. with “Hatching a Plan to Save a Northwest Icon,” a presentation about the future of salmon in Washington state.

Erin Glass of Island Adventures Whale Watching will talk about humpback whales returning to the Salish Sea.

At noon, Paul Kolensikoff will offer “Einstein’s Hair-Raising Story,” followed by Matt Jordan’s talk about the importance of celestial bodies in “Saving the Dark.”

Brad Griffith will present hands-on wood-bending activities.

Also back is Science on Display, honoring retired and active scientists living on the Olympic Peninsula.

GeekOut! is a community event hosted annually by the Feiro Life Marine Center.
