Captain Joseph House gala reservations accepted now

SEQUIM — Reservations for the Captain Joseph House Foundation’s Gala Dinner and Live Auction Fundraiser on Oct. 15 are being accepted through Sunday.

The dinner, live auction, raffles and Fund-a-Need will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, in Sequim. Proof of vaccination and a face mask are required.

Tickets are $85 per person or $75 per person for veterans, active military or retired. Reserving a table of six is $800 while a table of eight costs $1,000.

To purchase tickets, go to CJHFGala.givesmart.com or call 360-460-7848.

Matt Lorch, Emmy Award-winning news anchor/reporter and charity fundraising auctioneer, will take over the podium.

“His energy, enthusiasm and belief in the mission of Captain Joseph House Foundation is going to raise the ceiling at this benefit,” said Betsy R. Schultz, founder of the foundation.

Schultz founded the program after her son, Army Special Operations Capt. Joseph Schultz, was killed May 29, 2011, in Afghanistan by an improvised explosive device while on patrol. He was 36.

She began to renovate her former bed-and-breakfast at 1108 S. Oak St. to serve as a respite center for military families who lost loved ones in combat.

It is not yet in operation. When it is, the house will accommodate at one time as many as three families who have had immediate family members killed in combat since Sept. 11, 2001.

Last year’s annual auction was conducted on Facebook due to COVID regulations.

Each gala “has been a very special time to celebrate, honor and remember Fallen Heroes and their Gold Star Families through raising awareness and funds for CJHF,” Schultz said in a press release.

“We raised the funds to remodel the house and are raising the funds to support the operation and program when the doors are opened and it is safe for families to come and share time together.”
