Captain Joseph House gala coming up

SEQUIM — Reservations are due on Sunday for the 11th annual Captain Joseph House Foundation Gala Dinner and Auction.

The event will be from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 29 at The Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road in Sequim.

Tickets are $85 per person with a discount for veterans, active military and retired military, who pay $75 per person. A friends and family table is $1,000. To make reservations, go to https://captainjosephhousefoundation.org/cjhf-2023-gala-auction-dinner/ or call 360-460-7848.

The evening will include dinner, a live auction with auctioneer and news anchor Matt Lorch, raffles, balloons and fund-a-need.

Betsy Reed Schultz formed the Captain Joseph House Foundation after her son, Joseph Schulz, was killed during military service in Afghanistan on May 29, 2011, at the age of 36.

Through the foundation, her bed and breakfast at 1108 S. Oak St. in Port Angeles was turned into a respite center for families mourning loved ones who had been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since 9/11.

Captain Joseph House Foundation (CJHF) holds a gala dinner and live auction fundraiser every year.

“Each and every evening has been a very special time to celebrate, honor and remember Fallen Heroes and their Gold Star Families through raising awareness and funds for CJHF,” Schultz said in a press release.

The house’s first Gold Star Families came in October.

Among their comments, according to Schultz: “The week helped me more than I could’ve imagined.” “I was impressed by the profound emotion, safety and vulnerability that we were able to experience, especially considering how different each of our experiences were.” “My hero is not forgotten, because I’m not forgotten.”
