PORT ANGELES — Ghostlight Productions, now operating as a new nonprofit, presents “Magic to Do: A Broadway Musical Revue” featuring 22 musical numbers from Broadway.
“We wanted to take our audience on a journey,” director Mark Lorentzen said.
“Imagine taking a time machine to experience these shows first hand … that’s kind of what we’re going for with this show.”
The revue opened Thursday and continues at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday and July 27-29 at the Port Angeles Community Playhouse at 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd. Matinees at 2 p.m. are this Sunday and July 29.
Tickets are $18, $15 and $10.
This is the third year Ghostlight Productions has presented a summer show. In its 2016 performance, it was the first company on the West Coast to produce the brand-new ensemble version of “Titanic the Musical.”
Lorentzen said this show is the company’s debut as a new nonprofit and a way to present audiences with musical numbers it might make into full shows in the future.
For this season’s show, Lorentzen said he and his staff have strung together a series of songs from some of Broadway’s best shows, from golden oldies such as “Annie Get Your Gun” and “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” to popular classics such as “Chicago” and “Les Miserables” — one of Lorentzen’s personal favorites.
“We could not do a show like this without ‘Les Miserables,’ ” Lorentzen said. “It’s near and dear to my heart.”
Lorentzen said he and his staff chose songs the audience would be familiar with, and every musical number represents some of the best of Broadway.
He said putting together the musical numbers was one of the most difficult parts of arranging this show.
“It’s a difficult show to produce when you’re not bound by a script and storyline,” Lorentzen said.
“We have to work harder as actors to convey those emotions that the composer intended.”
Lorentzen said he has an incredible cast that is prepared to give audiences musical numbers with “big dancing, big singing and big acting.”
The show will feature choreography by Anna Pederson and a guest performance by the Ballet Workshop directed by Kate Long and Richard Stephens.
