Brass Screw Consortium festival continues this weekend

PORT TOWNSEND — The Brass Screw Consortium continues its celebration of Steampunk in Port Townsend today and Sunday.

The three-day festival began Friday with the opening of the Bodgers’ Grande Exhibition Hall, the Bazaar of the Bizarre and the Steampunk Den of Iniquities.

Tickets for a variety of events are available at the Cotton Building, 607 Water St.

Today’s schedule includes a scavenger hunt, the Steampunk Fashion Show, tea dueling and nerf wars among other activities and wind up with the Saturday Night Hootenanny.

The scavenger hunt at 1 p.m. today at Pope Marine Park is for all ages. Participants seek gold coins robbed from the Dirigible Colossus by Port Townsend pirates.

The fashion show will begin at 2 p.m. today. This year’s theme is Airship Pirates. Juried participants will strike colors and poses at the American Legion Hall at 209 Monroe St., Port Townsend.

Tea Dueling will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today and from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Northwest Maritime Center atrium, 431 Water St. Game rules require two opponents to simultaneously dip their biscuits into tea cups, then hold the soggy biscuit until just before it crumbles and popping it into one’s mouth as a “satisfying Nom.” If the biscuit crumbles to the floor, table, or one’s opponent, then one has lost. If both dunkers secure a clear Nom, then the last opponent to do so is the winner.

Hot Damn Scandal and Good Co will perform at the Saturday Night Hootenanny at 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall. Admission to the 21-and-older dance is $25 at the door .

On Sunday, events will begin at 10 a.m. with a promenade and continue with tea dueling, a historical walking tour and other attractions.until the closing ceremony at the Boat Yard at 2 p.m.
