SEQUIM — Blue Whole Gallery will kick off the new year with “Power of Art,” an exhibit of fine art pieces of jewelry by three artists and potteries by the late Tom Weston.

Artists will showcase unique work in the front windows of the gallery at 129 W. Washington St. throughout the month of January.

An exhibit opening is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 2. Facial coverings and social distancing are required in the gallery.

The newest Blue Whole Gallery member, jeweler Norma Van Orman, joins veterans Macaria D. Patapoff and Kathy Schreiner as the gallery’s three jewelers, offering a wide variety of custom-made, one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces.

The trio use fine silver, sterling silver and copper in pieces incorporating semi-precious gemstones, lamp-working custom-made beads and sea glass.

Potter Tom Weston died this year. He was born in 1952.

He honed his skills as a potter for more than 40 years, said his wife, Coleen Weston.

“His patience, understanding and imagination inspired him to always keep looking at new perspectives,” she said.

“His favorite saying was ‘Man is more than just a hunk of mud that stood up and took notice.’ He delighted in new ideas and sharing conversation and ideas with others.”

The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday though Sunday.
