Black and white show to open Wednesday

SEQUIM — The Sequim Museum and Art Center’s exhibit, “Simply Black and White,” will open Wednesday.

The show of photographs by Witta Priester and ceramics by Linda Collins Chapman — both Sequim residents— will be on display through Sept. 29 at the museum at 175 W Cedar St. Its opening reception will be during the First Friday Art Walk on Friday, Sept. 7.

The show is free and open to the public.

This show demonstrates how using strictly black and white as the artists’ palette can stimulate the creation of art and challenge the viewer’s perception, organizers said.

Priester competes locally and internationally, and judges photo competitions. Her eclectic artwork encompasses landscapes — often in infra-red — wildlife and nature — (trees are a favorite subject), still life and abstracts. Her work is oftentimes transformed in the digital darkroom.

Chapman has been a studio ceramicist for more than 40 years. Her art is collected on four continents and has been shown in galleries, invitational and juried shows from coast to coast.
