SEQUIM — Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture’s John Klicka will be the next featured presenter in the “Learn by the Light of the Moon” speaker series at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The series is at the Dungeness River Audubon Center at Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 Hendrickson Road.
Klicka is the curator of birds and a staff member in the Department of Biology at the University of Washington. He will speak on “Behind the Scenes at the Burke Museum, Recent and Ongoing Bird Studies.”
Klicka “will be reviewing some of the research that he and his students have been involved with in the last couple of years,” according to a press release.
“They have generated genetic data that provides a fresh perspective on avian relationships and the evolution of various traits and behaviors of birds,” it said.
“These new perspectives have important implications regarding the process of speciation and the very definition of what a species is.”
The presentation will take place rain or shine. In inclement weather, it will be held in the nature center. Bench seating is available but attendees are invited to bring a chair.
The center’s “Moon” series takes place once a month as the full moon dictates. It provides opportunities for the community to hear from naturalists and scientists who are working to better understand the world.
