PORT ANGELES — Studium Generale will host a bilingual theater group in recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
The free video presentation by Teatro Milagro / The Miracle Theater Group from Portland, Ore., will be followed by a talk-back session with the actors and with Native/indigenous students from Peninsula College from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday. Indigenous Peoples’ Day is Monday.

Studium Generale, which has an almost 50-year history at Peninsula College, will be offered for the first time through a Zoom platform.
“Although we will miss the opportunity to be together in the Little Theater on the campus in Port Angeles, this remote platform will provide more time for dialogue and discussion following the presentation,” said Kate Reavey, Studium Generale coordinator.
Teatro Milagro will present the original play “Huinca.” Written by Marilo Nuñez and directed by Reina Solunaya, the production centers on a story of the Mapuche people of Chile, framing their struggle in a larger global context, relating this conflict to other indigenous’ groups’ efforts to protect their native lands in resistance against global industrialization and colonialism.
“This story brings audiences into an awareness of not only a specific, indigenous peoples’ experience but also offers a glimpse of larger, global challenges,” Reavey said.
“The play will be presented in film form, and then the actors will offer a talk-back with Studium Generale students and Native/indigenous students from the college.”
