Beth Wood to perform at Concerts in the Woods

COYLE — Beth Wood, a modern-day troubadour and songwriter, will take the stage at Saturday’s Concert in the Woods.

The all-ages concert, with admission by donation, begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road. Complimentary cookies and coffee will be served at intermission.

“Beth’s music and entertaining stage presence fit right in with our concert format of focused listening in a quiet, intimate space,” said Norm Johnson, organizer of the concert series. “I’m looking forward to Beth Wood’s first appearance in Coyle.”

Wood, who now lives in Portland, Ore., began her musical journey in Lubbock, a high plains Texas town with a uniquely rich musical heritage that includes Buddy Holly, Natalie and Lloyd Maines, Mac Davis and Joe Ely.

There, she studied classical piano, violin, harp and voice before pursuing voice and piano at Brevard College in North Carolina. In Austin, she picked up a degree in literature and a guitar.

She began writing her own songs.

“Twenty years, thousands of shows, 10 albums, three cars and numerous awards later, Beth has never looked back,” according to her website at www.bethwoodmusic.com.

Wood has been featured on “Troubadour, TX,” a nationally syndicated documentary-style singer-songwriter reality television series airing in almost 40 million households and 140 U.S. markets.

She also has been a four-time featured artist on Cayamo, a weeklong Caribbean songwriters cruise, along with Lyle Lovett, Shawn Colvin, John Prine, Patty Griffin, Emmylou Harris and Richard Thompson.
