Benefit concert slated for Sunday in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend’s Ladies’ Chamber Orchestra and Benevolent Society, an ensemble now in its fourth year, will conduct its spring concert at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Admission will be by a freewill donation at the First Baptist Church, 1202 Lawrence St. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Jefferson County Immigrant Rights Advocates, an organization based in Port Townsend whose mission is to support the rights of immigrants through legal services, standing witness, advocacy and community education.

This spring concert will include a variety of time periods, regions and styles: renaissance, baroque, classical, 20th century, English, Italian, Hungarian and Mexican.

The composers include Anthony Holborne, Samuel Scheidt, Johann Hermann Schein, Jean Baptiste Loeillet, Franz Haydn, Narciso Serradell Sevilla, Quirino Mendoza y Cortes, John Bratton, Giuseppe Sammartini, Eric Tingstad, Nancy Rumbei and Port Townsend’s own Lee Inman.

The special guest artist for this event is guitar player Aki of Port Townsend.

The group is an ensemble of strings (violins, violas, cellos, and violas da gamba) recorders, and keyboards (piano and harpsichord).

It was formed by Dahti Blanchard in 2016 to showcase the talent and expertise of women musicians in Port Townsend and vicinity. Many of its members also perform locally in other ensembles in Port Townsend and Port Angeles.
