PORT TOWNSEND — A beach cleanup, a free film and free parking at state parks are planned in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day today.
The cleanup is open to everyone at the Port Townsend Marine Science Center at Fort Worden State Park, 532 Battery Way.
Participants are encouraged to sign up at PTMSC.org and, if they choose, pick up supplies at the museum building portico facing Fort Worden’s beach. Supplies and debris dropoff will be available there between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday.
Health measures in place include cleanup groups being limited to five or fewer people, maintaining a 6-foot distance from participants not in one’s group, and wearing face coverings for the duration.
Other Port Townsend beaches open for cleanup include North Beach County Park, Pope Marine Park downtown and Boat Haven beach.
Rose Theatre owner Rocky Friedman will screen “MLK/FBI,” in person for free at 1 p.m. Monday.
It will light the big screen at the Rose Theatre, 235 Taylor St.
Tickets — maximum two per person — are available for free at the Rose box office; they also can be reserved at Rosetheatre.com with a $1.50 per-ticket charge online.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a fee-free day at Washington state parks. Visitors do not need Discover passes to visit the parks.
On the North Olympic Peninsula, state parks are Fort Townsend and Old Fort Townsend in Port Townsend, Bogachiel near Forks, Dosewallips near Brinnon, Fort Flagler on Marrowstone Island, Anderson Lake near Chimacum and Sequim Bay near Sequim.
