“Bastards y Diablos” to be screened in Port Townsend on Tuesday

PORT TOWNSEND — Actor and recent Port Townsend Film Festival Fellowship award winner Andrew Perez will screen his film “Bastards y Diablos” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Film Festival’s Balcony Theater.

The screening is free to the public, although a donation is suggested, but space is limited, according to Jan Halliday of the Port Townsend Film Festival.

The theater, which seats only 40, is located in the Port Townsend Film Festival offices at 211 Taylor St., Suite 401-A.

When the film was shown during the 2016 Port Townsend Film Festival, Halliday estimated that more than 250 people were able to snag a seat in one of the two theaters it showed in.

Filmed in Columbia

“He not only wrote his own screenplay but he acted in it and filmed it in Columbia,” Halliday said. “He’s only 33 so we’re so glad we can help him along with this fellowship.”

Perez is now living and working in Port Townsend writing a second screenplay, which eventually will be presented to the public as well.

As part of his fellowship, his accommodations and transportation were arranged by the Port Townsend Film Festival staff.

Perez also was one of the featured actors during the 2016 Port Townsend Film Festival, not only for his work on “Bastards y Diablos” but also for his role in the movie, “My Scientology Story,” which was not shown at the film festival since its release date was delayed.

“Something to do with the Church of Scientology having some issues with it,” Halliday said.

“Bastards y Diablos” was a hit, winning the Special Jury Award during the September Festival in Port Townsend.

“It was just very popular,” Halliday said.

Los Angeles native

Perez was born in Los Angeles and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area before moving to Chicago to study acting at Northwestern University and The School at Steppenwolf. He moved back to Los Angeles in 2007.
