Band Booster dinner, dance Saturday in Sequim

SEQUIM — The Sequim High School Band Boosters will host its annual Jazz Dinner Dance on Saturday.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the music will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Sequim High cafeteria, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

Tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple and are available in Sequim at First Federal Sequim Avenue Branch, Full Moon Candle Co., and Cracked Bean Coffee.

The Stardust Big Band will be featured along with accompaniment by the Sequim High School Jazz Band.

A dinner of Southern fried chicken will be served.

“This is one of our favorite events of the year. It’s a great evening out with dinner and a show at an affordable price,” said Sara Benjamin, president of the Band Boosters Club.

“Money raised by this event will help us pay for desperately needed new uniforms.”

The Stardust Big Band, which has performed for the past 20 years, plays classics from swing-era luminaries Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Louis Armstrong, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and Woody Herman as well as contemporary artists.

The Sequim High School Jazz band is an elite audition-based band led by director Vern Fosket.

Band Boosters are raising money for new marching band uniforms. The current uniforms have been in use for 15 years with repeated alterations and cleanings. New uniforms will cost $15,000.
