Back Country Horsemen host ride, camp-out

PORT ANGELES — The Back Country Horsemen of Washington Mount Olympus Chapter will sponsor its inaugural ride and camp-out today through Sunday.

The group will meet at Littleton Horse Camp today. Event organizers advise those interested in camping to arrive before 5:30 p.m.

Directions to the camp are, from Port Angeles: “Travel U.S. Highway 101 west to Forest Service Road 3071 (near milepost 216). Turn right and follow [the] forest service road 1 mile where it ends at Littleton Horse Camp. Look for BCH signs as well,” according to a news release.

Saturday’s events will begin at 7 a.m. with an optional $5 pancake breakfast, after which a ride safety meeting will be held.

At 10 a.m., attendees will split into groups for differing difficulty-based day rides, with a designated drag rider for each group. Riders will need to bring a lunch.

Shoes and boots are recommended for the longer loop ride.

Following the ride, a potluck dinner will be held at 7 p.m. in tandem with a Dutch oven cooking presentation.

Games and prizes will be held throughout the evening. A music performance is to be announced.

On Sunday, attendees can ride where they wish.

Organizers urge that attendees be prepared for rain. On-site water and trail maps will be available.
