SEQUIM — The City Arts Advisory Commission will host an open house and awards ceremony for the winners of the High Schools of the Olympic Peninsula Creative Crafts and Arts Exhibit from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
The award presentations will be at 5 p.m. The event will take place in the Karen Kuznek-Reese Gallery at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.
The advisory commission invited high school students across the Olympic Peninsula to submit entries for the exhibit.
Twenty entries were selected out of 65 entered. The CAAC received 65 entries. Twenty were selected for exhibit inside the Sequim Civic Center. The exhibit is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through April 28. A digital show of all accepted entries is available for viewing on a screen from outside the Civic Center.
The top three entries will be awarded cash prizes.
The first place of $200 is awarded to Kaylie Steed, a ninth-grader at Sequim High School, for her drawing titled “One Who Has Loved Truly.”
Second place of $150 is awarded to Jakob Miller from the West Sound Tech program at Quilcene High School for his welded piece “Metal Rose.”
Third place of $100 is awarded to Jaxon Taylor, a 10th-grader at Quilcene High School, for his ceramic “Birdman” vase.
All cash prizes were donated by members of the community.
Honorable Mentions are awarded to Madison McKeown, a senior at Sequim High School, for her floral arrangement “Skull and Antlers;” Faith Coffey, a sophomore at Quilcene High School, for her charcoal drawing “Chihuahua Dog;” and Jill Adolphsen, a junior at Sequim High School, for her watercolor and ink painting of “Elephant.”
