August Woodcock Walkabout is All About Pollinators

SEQUIM — The Woodcock Garden is full of color as it welcomes the pollinators of summer.

At 10 a.m. Thursday, Master Gardener Valarie Bowers will guide visitors through the demonstration garden at 2711 Woodcock Road and answers questions of interest to the summer gardener.

The public is invited to take a guided tour on the first Thursday of each month through October.

The August walk will focus on plants in bloom.

The new herb spiral in the culinary herb garden is in place and starting to grow.

The asparagus has been harvested but other fruits and veggies are starting to mature.

The dahlias are emerging, the cottage garden is full of color, and the shade garden offers a cool respite from the summer heat.

Master Gardeners tend the gardens Thursday mornings and will be available to answer questions on their respective areas of the garden.

Living example

The 2.74-acre Woodcock Demonstration Garden has garden displays demonstrating sustainable gardening techniques that cover a broad range of ornamentals, edible, and native plants as well as composting and garden design.

It is free to enter and open to the public daily. Presently there are detours around the Dungeness bridge at Woodcock and visitors will need to use the detours posted on Old Olympic Highway.
