SEQUIM — The next Backyard Birding class will examine “Birdscaping — Inviting Birds to Your Yard” at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Dungeness River Audubon Center at Railroad Bridge Park.
The cost of each session at the park at 2151 W. Hendrickson Road is $5.
Admission is free for anyone younger than 18.
Hosted by the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society, this series of 10 classes offers information about observing and protecting wild bird life in the region.
The fourth in the 2018-19 series will be presented by Carolyn Wilcox, owner and guide for Experience Olympic Tours on the Olympic Peninsula.
In this class, Wilcox will launch a new community outreach winter campaign to invite birds into area residents’ yards.
She will touch on such topics as general wildlife ecology, invasive bird and plant species, feeders and nest boxes, snags and other dead wood habitat, landscape planning, cats, window strikes and discouraging rats.
Backyard Birding may be taken either as individual classes or in a series.
For participants completing five sessions in the series, Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society offers free, one-year memberships.
