Auditions planned this evening for spring production

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Community Players plan auditions today for their spring production, the final main stage show of the 2022-23 season.

“One Man, Two Guvnors” is a comedy farce that takes place in Brighton, England during the 1960s. It was nominated for seven Tony awards and won Best Actor by James Corden. (Looking like Corden isn’t required to fill his role as Francis Henshall, just the ability to act hungry.)

The auditions will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Playhouse, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

The show will run from May 5 through May 21, with 7:30 p.m. performances on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. matinees on Sundays.

The plot is about an out-of-work musician, Francis Henshall, who becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe. Crabbe is a small-time East End hood, now in Brighton to collect £6,000 from the dad of his fiancée.

But Roscoe is really his twin sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother, who has been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers.

While Stubbers is holed up at The Cricketers Arms, the permanently ravenous Francis spots the chance of an extra meal ticket. Francis takes a second job with Stanley, who is hiding from the police and waiting to be reunited with Rachel. To prevent discovery, Francis must keep his two guvnors apart. Simple.

It is based on the 18th century commedia dell’arte comedy “The Servant of Two Masters” by Carlo Goldoni. In this new English version, by playwright Richard Bean, sex, food and money are high on the agenda with physical comedy, some bawdy humor and audience interaction at the forefront.

The play will be directed by Faylee Favara, a new resident in the area. Faylee is a professional theater director with over 35 years experience as a director, producer and educator.

She has degrees in musical theater, music and a master’s in directing. She has directed more than 100 productions.

The cast will consist of three females and six males, aged 16 or older.

Actors should not limit their thinking to any specific age for the roles.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the scripts (available to peruse at the Port Angeles and Sequim public libraries), some improv and light singing. Great singing voices are not required, organizers said.

If interested, but unable to make the auditions, contact Barb Frederick, PACP board president, at 360-452-6651 or Pacommunityplayers@hotmail.com.
