Auditions open for Peninsula Singers repertoire

SEQUIM — The Peninsula Singers will hold fall auditions Thursday for all sections, with a special interest in tenors and basses.

The choir seeks experienced singers who read music and enjoy an array of literature from classical to modern.

Interested singers should contact Maestro Jerome Wright at maestro@olympus.net to book an appointment.

Auditions will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., by appointment only.

Each singer should prepare a short solo to demonstrate vocal quality. Singers will be asked to sing the first verse of “My Country ’Tis of Thee” during the audition.

A casual interview will follow.

On Nov. 18-19, the Peninsula Singers will perform a pair of concerts to prepare folks for the holiday season.

The first half will be classical, and the second half will include a “potpourri of holiday songs” — several of Jackson Berkey’s modern carols, the “Brazilian Psalm” of Jean Berger and Hanukkah favorites.

The Peninsula Singers hired Wright in January after longtime director Dewey Ehling died in August.

Before becoming maestro, Wright founded the Seattle Girls’ Choir and served as its artistic director for 28 years.

He also founded the Seattle Oratorio Society and the Olympic Girls’ Choir in Sequim.

Wright currently directs the choir at Trinity United Methodist Church.
