Auditions for ‘Sylvia’ tonight, Sunday at Olympic Theatre Arts

SEQUIM — Olympic Theater Arts in Sequim will hold auditions for the play “Sylvia,” a comedy about a marriage and a dog, tonight at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.

Auditions are open to everyone with no appointments necessary at OTA, 414 N. Sequim Ave.

Auditioners who can’t make it during those times are invited to call 360-683-7326 to make alternate arrangements.

“Sylvia,” by A.R. Gurney, is a modern romantic comedy about the relationship between a man, his wife and his dog, and how each tests the resolve of the other, according to a news release.

The characters of Greg — Kate’s husband, and Sylvia’s “owner” — is a middle-aged man.

Kate is Greg’s wife; she is a middle-aged woman who has issues Greg and Sylvia’s relationship.

Sylvia is a role for a woman in her 20s to mid-30s. This is a physically demanding role. She has knee pads but will be on all fours at times, jumping on couches and running around.

Tom, Leslie and Phyllis can be any age, but most likely age 35 to mid-60s. These three roles are all played by one actor, most likely a man. Tom is a fellow dog-lover that Greg meets in the park, Phyllis is one of Kate’s high-society, alcoholic friends and Leslie is their gender-ambiguous marriage counselor.

Organizers recommend checking out the script from OTA and reading it over ahead of time.

OTA is also still looking for more creative people to fill out a production team. Interested persons are invited to inquire.

The show will run from Oct. 19 to Nov. 4.

For more information, contact Olympic Theatre Arts at 360-683-7326.
