Arts to Elders concert, rain forest lecture offered Tuesday

An Arts to Elders concert and a lecture comparing rain forests are among Tuesday’s activities on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Arts to elders

PORT TOWNSEND — Mike and Val James will perform a free concert at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The concert will be at Life Care of Port Townsend, 751 Kearney St.

The performance is part of the Arts to Elders series sponsored by Northwind Arts Center and funded by the Rotary Club of Port Townsend and an anonymous donor.

Volunteer orientation

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Marine Science Center will conduct a volunteer information session from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The presentation will be in the center’s museum classroom, 532 Battery Way.

The center has opportunities ranging from greeting and interpreting to helping to maintain the aquariums and touch tanks.

Tech Tuesday

PORT HADLOCK — Library staff will present “Free eBooks and Audiobooks” from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The class is part of the Tech Tuesday series at the Jefferson County Library, 620 Cedar Ave.

Attendees will learn how to download the Libby app and find popular titles to borrow and return from different devices.

Tech staff will be available from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. after the class for drop-in tech assistance with phones, tablets or other devices.

Book discussion

PORT ANGELES — The Second Tuesday Book Discussion Group will discuss “The Bonesetter’s Daughter” by Amy Tan at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The monthly group meets in the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

In February, the group will discuss the novel, “Notes On a Foreign Country: An American Abroad In a Post-American World” by Suzy Hansen.

Senior dance

PORT ANGELES — Cat’s Meow will perform for a swing dance from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The dance will be in the Port Angeles Senior and Community Center, 328 E. Seventh St.

Refreshments will be served from 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Admission is $5 per person; first-time attendees are admitted free.

Perspectives speaker

PORT ANGELES — Syria Lejau will present “Comparing Two Rain Forests” at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The free lecture, part of Olympic National Park’s Perspectives series, is in the Carver Room at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

Lejau, a park guide at Gunung Mulu National Park in Borneo for 20 years, will share stories and pictures contrasting the tropical rain forest with temperate Hoh Rain Forest.
