Artists encouraged to apply for Port Townsend gallery shows

PORT TOWNSEND — Artists across and beyond the Olympic Peninsula are invited to enter one or both of the exhibitions coming up at Northwind Art’s Jeanette Best Gallery.

Showcase 2025, Northwind’s celebration of local artists, is welcoming applications through Nov. 1. That deadline has been extended from the previous cutoff of Oct. 1 to encourage more artists to enter. Updated details can be found at https://northwindart.org; the link is in the red banner at the top of the homepage.

Then there is the annual Small Expressions show, open to applications through Oct. 11. This exhibition embraces all art media, from photography to paintings to jewelry. Northwind’s website site has application information.

Artists with questions about either show can contact Northwind Art Exhibits Coordinator Jaiden Dokken at exhibits@ northwindart.org.

“We’re really looking forward to both Small Expressions and Showcase 2025. These exhibitions show off the wide range of artistry in our region,” Northwind spokesperson Diane Urbani said.

The artwork selected for Showcase 2025 and for Small Expressions will be displayed and available for purchase at Jeanette Best Gallery, 701 Water St. in downtown Port Townsend.

Small Expressions will run from Nov. 22 through Jan. 6, while Showcase 2025 will open in January and continue through December 2025, with new artwork rotated in every four months.

Small Expressions, whose works are no larger than 16 inches in any direction, is a show designed to attract artworks suitable for giving and/or shipping during the holiday season.

“It’s an annual tradition that began some 23 years ago at the Northwind Arts Center,” Urbani said. “The Small Expressions show makes it possible to purchase a piece of original art, from a local artist, as a gift for a loved one. That’s such a joyful thing.”
