Artist Trust authors to read in Port Townsend this Saturday

PORT TOWNSEND — Three Artist Trust authors — Bill Carty, Michelle Peñaloza and Ramon Isao— will read at the Northwind Reading Series on Saturday.

The reading will start at 7 p.m. in the Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St.

The suggested donation for the readings is $5. All proceeds will support the nonprofit Northwind Arts Center.

Fellowships received

Carty has received poetry fellowships from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Mass.; the Richard Hugo House; and Artist Trust.

His chapbook “Refugium” was published by Alice Blue Books, and his poems have recently appeared, or will soon, in the Boston Review, the Iowa Review, Willow Springs, Conduit, Okey-Panky and other journals. He is an editor at Poetry Northwest.

Peñaloza is the author of two chapbooks: “landscape/heartbreak” (Two Sylvias Press) and “Last Night I Dreamt of Volcanoes” (Organic Weapon Arts).

Published work

Her work has been featured in Waxwing, Poetry Northwest, New England Review, Vinyl and Verse Daily.

She is the recipient of fellowships and awards from the University of Oregon, Kundiman, the Richard Hugo House, 4Culture and Artist Trust, as well as scholarships from VONA/Voices, Vermont Studio Center and the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference.

Isao is a recipient of the Tim McGinnis Award for Fiction, as well as fellowships from Artist Trust and the Jack Straw Cultural Center.

His writing has appeared in The Iowa Review, Ninth Letter, City Arts, Hobart and The American Reader.

Screenplay credits

His screenplay credits include “Zombies of Mass Destruction,” “Dead Body” and “Junk,” in which he co-stars. He has an MFA from Columbia University, and he teaches creative writing at Hugo House.
