Artist books on exhibit at Port Angeles Fine Arts Center

PORT ANGELES — An exhibit of artist books will begin Saturday at the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center.

The reception for “Art Exhibition — Unrestricted: An Exploration of Artist Books” will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in the gallery at the center at 1203 E.Lauridsen Blvd. A talk by the show’s curator, Jan Dove, is planned at 6 p.m.

Collaborative project

This exhibition is a collaborative project between Port Angeles Fine Arts Center and the Sherry Grover Gallery at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (BIMA), Dove said.

Selections from the BIMA artist book collection will be on view along with invitational artist books from artists in Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado and British Columbia.

The eclectic show will investigate the meaning of the term “Artist Book.”

Dove said that an Artist Book is art made in reference to the idea of a book, “however you define ‘book.’ ”

Artists in the invitational part of this show are Dove, Mary Ashton, Alicia Bailey, Debbi Commodore, Carletta Carrington Wilson, Mari Eckstein Gower, Deborah Greenwood, Lucia Harrison, Pamela Hastings, Mark Hoppmann, Lorna Leedy, Cora Li-Leger, Amy Lund, Ellie Mathews, Randi Parkhurst, Bettina Pauly, Laura Russell, Lynn Skordal, Bonnie Thompson Norman, Diane Williams and Suze Woolf.

The show will continue through May 13.

The center is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. It will open at 5 p.m. this Saturday.
