Art sale to benefit Humane Society this weekend

PORT TOWNSEND — Artist Sandy Guinup, who has lived in Port Townsend for more than 20 years, will put many of her works up for sale Saturday to benefit the Humane Society of Jefferson County.

The public can view her works and purchase paintings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 1024 Monroe St.

Guinup said she has been heavily influenced by the beauty of the Port Townsend area as well as the vibrant art scene.

She often uses watercolor paint on “Yupo” paper [a plastic surface], canvas, as well as traditional watercolor paper.

Because she is motivated to find homes for her art as she winds down her career, all offers will be welcomed.

Guinup received undergraduate and masters degrees from Ohio State University, Long Beach State University, Calif.; and Point Loma College, San Diego, Calif.

She also attended summer art studies in Mallorca, Spain, as well as taking art classes at Santa Rosa Junior College and Peninsula College.

She taught art in Los Angeles and Orange County, Calif., for 20 years, and has exhibited her work at Ohio State University and in California at Marin County, Sebastopol Gallery and Healdsburg Gallery.

Locally, her works have been shown at Tyler Street Café, Uptown Dental, Peninsula College, Jefferson County Hospital, and for 15 years at Northwind Art Center where she won Best In Show in 2011.
