Art jurors to give free talk Thursday in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — The public is invited to a free gallery talk with artists and jurors Richard and Jesse Watson at 6 p.m. Thursday at Northwind Art’s Jeanette Best Gallery.

The gallery, at 701 Water St., is filled with Northwest Expressions, the art exhibition whose 40 pieces were selected by the Watsons.

Richard and Jesse, father and son, both are internationally known artists who live in Port Townsend.

As jurors, they combed through more than 600 artworks submitted to Northwest Expressions.

The result is a varied show featuring 38 artists from across Washington and Oregon.

After the exhibit opened last Friday, the Watsons named the winners of the $500 Jurors’ Choice and three $300 Merit Awards.

“They found it very tough to choose just four recipients,” Northwind Art spokesperson Diane Urbani said. “They wanted to give out about 15 awards.”

“It’s going to be a lively discussion on Thursday about art and how the Watsons moved through the selection process for this show,” she added.

Northwest Expressions will stay on view through Sept. 29.

The downtown gallery is open daily from noon to 5 p.m.

More information about the show and about Northwind’s art classes at Fort Worden can be found at www.northwindart.org.
