‘Art as Artifact’ presented through June

PORT ANGELES — Only two more weeks are available to view the North Olympic History Center’s “Art as Artifact” exhibit at the old Lincoln School site at the corner of Ninth and C streets.

Parking and entry are on the west side of the school off Ninth Street.

For the month of June, the art show is open by appointment Tuesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

To make appointments, call or email the History Center at 360-452-2662.

The exhibit concludes Thursday.

The collection of artwork on exhibit is owned by the History Center and has been donated by estates, artists and owners of artwork.

“This is a rare opportunity for the community to view most of the collection which includes artwork from the 1890s to present,” according to a press release.

All pieces in this show were created in Clallam County by residents at the time.

A highlight of this exhibit is the 13-foot-by-3-foot painting of the Port Angeles Gun Club done by Thomas Guptill in 1938. The club is still located east of Port Angeles.

Esther Webster, Minerva Troy, Gustav Kalling and Joy McCarter are just a few of the featured artists. There are over 300 pieces being shown in this collection representing more than 60 artists.

Two local artists, silk artist Karen Sistek and jewelry designer Paulette’s by Design have donated pieces for a raffle to benefit the History Center.
