SEQUIM — The First Friday Art Walk in Sequim offers the Fifth Annual “Whodunnit Downtown? — The Case of the Silver Lining Secret Formula” Mystery Game.
The game presented by the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber Merchant Group and First Friday Art Walk Sequim offers a fun-filled evening as participants step back in time to the 1950s where visitors collect the clues about the suspects at various venues to solve the crime for a chance to win a prize.
First Friday Art Walk Sequim is a free, self-guided tour of local art venues in Sequim on the First Friday of every month from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Every walk has a color theme. The theme for tonight is silver with hints of black and white to celebrate the New Year filled with reflection, hope and idealistic goals for the future, said organizer Renne Emiko Brock.
“The sparkly color of silver represents shimmering thoughtfulness, honorable dedication, untarnished resilience, imaginative aspirations, revolutionary receptiveness and lofty ideals,” she said.

Tonight’s mystery game is set in 1956. At the community rally to announce Dr. Sean Steel’s “Silver Lining Secret Formula” discovery, the police instead announce the doctor’s lab has been ransacked and the chemist is missing — as well as the notebook containing the “secret formula.”
Who has absconded with the notebook? Where is the chemist? What is the “Silver Lining Secret Formula”?

Participants can pick up game cards at any of the these venues. Those who fill out a game card and enter it at Sunshine Café at 145 W. Washington St. will be part of a prize drawing for the correct answer at 7:30 p.m.
No purchase is necessary. Participants must be 21 or older to win. It is not necessary to be present to win. The winner is drawn by random and prizes are donated by local Sequim Businesses. The first game card drawn with the correct answer wins the big prize of encouraging experiences.
Visitors and sleuths to the “Whodunnit Downtown” and Sequim Art Walk are encouraged to dress in the themed colors of silver, black and white, as well as, in 1950s era attire, said Emiko Brock.
“It is not required, but dressing up makes the evening more fun and festive,” she said.
Other attractions on tonight’s Sequim Art Walk are:
• Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St., will host the reception for the Raining Cats and Dogs art exhibit from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The exhibit, sponsored by the city of Sequim and the city Arts Advisory Commission, will showcase artwork in many mediums with images of cats and dogs.
Also planned are free workshops related to the care and local informational services for domestic animals.
• Rainshadow Café, 157 W. Cedar St., will have author and photographer Alicia Demetropolis of LifeBridge Wellness Services sharing photographs from her recent trip to Nepal.
Demetropolis spent three months journeying through Kathmandu and the surrounding valley, feeding the homeless, doing elder care, and training medical professionals on some of the tools used in the United States. She also assessed elder care centers for a Nepali non-governmental organization.
Along with locally roasted coffee, Northwest craft beer, wine, and cheese platters and charcuterie plates will be live music with Chex Ferguson from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., in celebration of the New Year, will present a group show titled “Back to Basics: Black and White.”
Curated by Nancy Lawrence and Gregory Felando, the show reveals the challenge presented when limiting the palette. Working in black and white lays bare the elements of design and reveals the expressive strength of the work, organizers said.
• Wind Rose Cellars, 143 W. Washington St., will host Hot Llamas, a local bluegrass/newgrass band with a mixture of musicians from Sequim and Port Angeles, while guests are served appetizers and award-winning wines.
• Peninsula Taproom, 210 W. Washington St., Suite 4, is new to the Art Walk. It offers crafted brews and treats.
• Olympic Theatre Arts, 414 N. Sequim Ave., will have the Victorian-dressed clarinet ensemble Toot Sweet performing “Story-telling Through Music” beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The performance is free of charge. Beverages and snacks will be available for purchase from OTA volunteers.
Toot Sweet is comprised of b-flat clarinetists Nancy Peterson of Port Ludlow, Mark Holman of Poulsbo and Janet Proebstel of Sequim plus bass clarinetist Vicky Blakesley of Sequim.
The concert will feature several musical pieces that tell stories of heroes and heroines from various operas and plays.
