Annual Trivia Night at Masonic Temple on Saturday

PORT ANGELES — Trivia buffs and music fans take note: Port Angeles High School Band Boosters’ sixth annual Trivia Night Extravaganza takes flight Saturday at the Masonic Temple.

Doors will open at the facility at 622 S. Lincoln St., at 6 p.m. for jazz performances, concessions, no host bar and perusal of auction items. Trivia begins at 7 p.m.

Admission is $10 per person and registration forms are available at Port Book and News, 104 E. First St., or at the door.

“It’s a wonderful place for people to come, play trivia and listen to music, as well as laugh and contribute to a great cause,” said Doug Gailey, Port Angeles High School band director.

Proceeds will fund scholarships for graduating band members. Gailey said there are 20 seniors who could potentially qualify for Band Booster scholarships after having participated in the band program all four years of high school.

Teams of six to eight people compete against others to win the $100 grand prize and bragging rights for the rest of the year, said Candi Gates, Band Booster president.

Individuals, families, and couples are welcome to the Port Angeles High School Band Booster evening. Individuals who don’t come as part of a team will be added to one, said organizers.

The evening includes four rounds of trivia, jazz performances, live and silent auctions. PAHS graduates Elliott and Hudson Soelter, both alumni of the PAHS bands, will serve as trivia masters.

The organization will auction many items including Mariners’ tickets, Port Angeles Symphony season tickets, a guided fishing trip, a senior portrait package, 50 pounds of troll-caught salmon, halibut and albacore tuna, a cord of firewood and cheesecake.

The Port Angeles High School Jazz Ensemble will perform such classics as “Second Line” (Joe Avery Blues), “Days of Wine and Roses” by Henry Mancini and “A Warm Breeze,” popularized by Count Basie.

Ensemble members include Conner Blauser, Peyton Cable, Kelsey Cammack, Sean Hanrahan, Zak Harrell, David Homan, Jake Jacobsen, WesLee Laughman, Mathew Locke, Cameron Lopez, Taylor Martin, Caleb Mathison, Colby Nicholson, Jordan Nicolas, Olga Palenga, Kayla Richmond, Kaysey Roberts and Aiden Volkers.

Graduating band seniors include percussionists Jordyn Gates, Mathew Locke and Aron Trubow, clarinetists Alyssa Dailey-Morse, Alana Leffers, Rylan MacDonald and Palenga; flute players Paige Foth, Hannah Heustis, Nita Ladd, Madeline Linson, Makena Meredith, Carly Moe and Kirsten Wahlsten, trumpet player Jordan Nicolas, trombone players David Homan and Mathison, and saxophonists Elijah Chapman, Cable and Cammack.
